CASHBACK is an interesting
comedy drama that succeeds in keeping you glued to the plot in many ways. It
has romance, it has sex in a light manner, sometime it even thrills you...but
overall it works because it never tries to be complicated.
Ben is the guy
who develops insomnia after his first painful break-up with her
flirtatious girlfriend. To utilize those extra 8 hours in his life, he opts out
to work in nights as a salesman in a supermarket. If nothing excites you till
now, hear this out...while working there, he discovers
a strangely amusing magical power in himself that makes him
able to pause any moment in his life and spend it as he wants to, till he ends
it himself.

Watching Turkish film BABAM VE OGLUM [MY
FATHER AND MY SON] was a 'COL' experience for me...CRY OUT LOUD, I
mean. Story-line may seem familiar with
many Bollywood movies done in the past, but this time emotions are so
high-so heartrending, you won't be able to hold it from breaking into tears.
Due to ideological differences with his father, a rebellious son indulged in radical political activities had to leave home...now; he is back with his son...& a tragic secret, in order to mend all the broken links with his family & to insure a better future for his son.
This is a kind of perfect family photo album that makes you drop down into thin
layers of relationships close to your heart. Very much relevant to our
extended Indian family system! Do I still have to say 'RECOMMENDED'
& 'A MUST WATCH'??[http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0476735/]

About
life, many would agree that the choices we make are solely responsible for what
our life is going to be. But can someone take account that if the choices would
be different, life doesn't look the same as it does now?
Jaco
Van Dormael’s MR. NOBODY [2009] is a fantasy romantic drama that looks more
like a jigsaw puzzle where we see, in a futuristic world of year 2092, the last
mortal man alive is being pushed to recall his past to gather vital information
about his identity. The man therefore, called as Mr. nobody, revisits his
lifetime with situations where he is forced to make choices in life and relives
different lives with different sets of people, places & perspectives
towards life.
So,
if you see a nine-year old son making choice to be with his mother, it’s a
different path of life having its own prospect but sooner or later, you are
also bound to see if he didn't go with mother but the father, what would be the
scenario now?
Confusing?
Of course it is but having said that let me also remind you...this is not
regular. With completely stunning visuals, mind-blowing narrative pattern,
smart writing, incredibly enacted performances and the constant attention that
this movie demands from its viewers, it is a must watch mind-bender for people
who think cinema not as a mindless classroom but a brain-teasing playground.

No
matter how dysfunctional it is, family deserves and needs nothing more than
just you being there standing together through each ups & downs in life. Lasse
Hallstrorm’s WHAT’S EATING GILBERT GRAPE is a high-on-emotions family drama
that works big time because it doesn't necessarily harp on en-cashing your sentiments
with a tearjerker melodrama but makes you have a feel good smile throughout
with the slice of life situations the characters find themselves settled into.
When asked about what he wants from life, Gilbert- the most responsible member of the house, played by Johnny Depp, can only come up with wishes for others in the family like his big fat mamma to join aerobic classes, his younger brother in severe mental condition [played by Leonardo DiCaprio in his early years] to have a new brain, younger sister to act little mature and really nothing for himself. But soon, he is shown some light on the other side of the tunnel by a young girl ready to explore every corner around the globe. Will he be able to cut all the strings attached to keep him confined in that little hopeless town or his liabilities towards family will hold him back to get sunk into the deep dark hollow?
WHAT’S EATING GILBERT GRAPE is a film that succeeds into making you stay connected with all the situations and characters you come across. Each performance is worth watching but it’s Leonardo DiCaprio who steals the show all the way. He has never looked so cute, trust me on that. You smile, cry and feel for his utterly impactful portrayal of an innocent kid trapped into a bigger body.
Watch it for a nice, feel good, heartfelt experience that will bless you with a constant smile on your face, occasional lumps in the throat and moist eyes in some emotionally charged scenes! Isn't it the perfect recipe for a family drama?? I bet it is!!! [ http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108550/]

Some
movies are made to entertain you, some are to inspire you and a few are to
educate & enlighten you from within, Denzel Washington directed THE GREAT
DEBATERS falls into a rare category that fits into all the parameters in the
world of cinema, I was talking about. It not only creates the ripple effect to
cry out the fouls in the system but also takes a competent step forward in
providing a definite way out to resolve it.
Based on a true story, set in the horrifying times of 1935 in Texas, America, where colored people are being beaten up & burnt down to death, a radical political activist camouflaged as an educationist who believes in the power of words, wants to utilize the stage for inter-college debate competitions to grab initial attention, generate consciousness & to raise a firm voice for equality and justice in all senses. He creates an unbeatable team of 4 young debaters in his little known county college that later goes out in the world to make the elite national champions at Harvard university speechless & stunned with their skilled yet inspiring debate sessions.
I really miss this kind of ‘enlightening’ cinema here in Bollywood that does not bore you but bothers you to look around & think over the social issues as a responsible citizen. As the famous poet & the debate coach Melvin Tolson, Denzel earns commendable appreciation and all the respects for his powerful performance.

Watch out for a scene where in the land of education Harvard University, even a hotel bell boy lectures to the small-town debaters in full spirits about the word ‘satyagraha' and later the team uses Gandhian non-cooperation movement to strengthen their point in debate. I feel proud for such important mentions of India in Hollywood rather than shouting out loud for our actors making ‘blink & miss’ appearances.
A very very engaging- inspiring & a high-on-content drama that helps you grow as a better social animal with great sensibility & acceptance for the need of the hour to bring the change. A MUST-WATCH! [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0427309/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1]
