MANJHI- THE MOUNTAIN MAN: The ‘Man at Work’ Nawazuddin nails it! [3.5/5]

The term ‘Incredible India’ can never be classified to only its breathtakingly colorful places of cultural or natural heritage; or even to the very fact that despite being stung by corruption, crime and constricted behavioral social and over-emotional issues, it is still very much on its feet. In fact, the other and the most significant characteristic of our nation have always been the legends of implausible efforts turning the impossible into the possible. The courageous case of Dashrath Manjhi of Bihar is most likely the most inspiring saga of undying spirit, nerve-wracking guts, survival against all odds and the triumph of true love in modern India. Ketan Mehta’s MANJHI- THE MOUNTAIN MAN is a visual documentation of Manjhi’s arduous 22-year long struggle to bring a considerable change in the society he’s been rooted in. But in the stricture of a Bollywood film that also craves for approval of the entertainment-seekers! A win some, lose some situation!

Dashrath Manjhi [Nawazuddin] is an angry young man traumatized by his beloved wife’s unfortunate accidental death and tormented by the haunting memories of good old times spent with her. Describing the pain better in his own words, Manjhi states in the film, “Kuch bhulaye nahin bhoolta. Fillum si ghus gayi hai humar khopadiya mein, kabhi bhi kahin se shuru ho jaati hai…aage-peechhe, peechhe-aage’. The same vouches for another reference to the film’s back & fourth narrative. The remedy lies in the revenge. Manjhi must fight the evil; in this particular case, a mammoth, invincible and insensitive mountain. The true love needs to pass the test and the only way out is, “Don’t stop till it’s over.” And thus, begins the wrestle between the two taking 22 years to reach a climax in favor of the most unbeatable spirit of a helpless looking man with just a hammer and a chisel in his hands.

Ketan Mehta is blessed with an eagle eye to look out for inspirational real-life stories from the past [SARDAR, MANGAL PANDEY- THE RISING, RANG RASIYA] but this time, his luck takes a giant leap in terms of finding Dashrath Manjhi in Nawazuddin’s chameleon-beating talent of owning a character so much that it could blur all the lines in between the two. The film gets off-track more than a couple of times when Ketan decides to provide some half-hearted, easy, filmy and feeble elements of desperate entertainment values [His buffoonery act on the first encounter with his would-be wife, for instance] but don’t lose your faith in Nawazuddin as he constantly manages to surprise you with his unimpeachable acting skills. If watching him romance with one of the most sizzling actresses of today’s times Radhika Apte is delightful, then his monologues with the mountain are simply worth-whistling. You can’t afford to miss any of the expressions he wears on his face so responsibly. His performance can only be expressed better in his own words on screen, “Shaandar! Jabardast!! Zindabad!!!”

Radhika Apte as Manjhi’s wife is here again to win some serious accolades. Though she misses a shot or two while perfecting the pitch and parlance of a rural-tribal inhabitant, she is in good form. Tigmanshu Dhulia repeats his GANGS OF WASSEYPUR role as the mean & malevolent Mukhiya of the village. Late Asharaf-ul-Haque as Manjhi’s Father is pitch-perfect. This is probably the best and the lengthiest role of his lifetime. Heartbreakingly, he couldn’t be here to enjoy the praise. Prashant Narayanan does his bit good in first part but later, returns only to kill it with a typecast transformation. Deepa Sahi surprises in her one and only appearance. Music is one big letdown. They try hard to sound authentically connected to the pace and the place but sadly, never reach the mark of satisfaction.

MANJHI- THE MOUNTAIN MAN is undeniably Ketan Mehta’s one of the bests; mostly because of two individuals. In Dashrath Manjhi, he finds an extraordinary hero who never surrenders to anything in his road to deliverance. And an excellent player of unswerving performance in his screen version Nawazuddin! Had it been less theatrical and more profound in its nature, MANJHI- THE MOUNTAIN MAN would have been definitely the best film of the year. The task is not completed but you’ll love the MAN at work! BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN: Story in a Salman Film! What else could you wish for?? [3/5]

A star, in every possible sense, is born; in a superstar’s film. She plays a cute but mute young girl accidently separated from her family. Her presence on screen alone gives a lot of hope to the film. She hardly makes a sound in this quite ‘loud’ film but still, you will never skip any of the emotions she throws at you through her rewarding smile, wide-eyed heartrending look and an inspiring performance. 7-year old Harshaali Malhotra is a lot more than just a name in the credit rolls. In fact, she is a blessing to Kabir Khan’s BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN- a film that’s targeted to encash one superstar’s glory, fame and fan-base, and surprisingly has a story too. Go ahead, pinch yourself to believe it.

A young mute girl from Pakistan [Harshaali] is left alone across the border in Indian Territory. Good that she meets a Hanuman-loyal Bajrangi [Salman Khan] who, after several failed legal attempts, decides to take her back to Pakistan at his own. Rest is how the good-hearted people from the neighborhood confirm the existence of humanity and compassion within them. Well, Kabir Khan succeeds in offering us a story that has its heart at the right place. But the fact that a Salman Khan film has a story or vice versa a moving story has Salman Khan in it; is enough to make you ready to expect the unexpected. The first part carries the boring & hurriedly-done love-track of Bajrangi with an ever-ready to ‘hit the dance floor’ Rasika [Kareena Kapoor Khan]. The subplot could hint you to the glimpses of the superstar’s previous hits like BODYGUARD & KICK (He’s given 6 months of ultimatum to build a house of his own to marry her).

The second half marks the entry of Nawazuddin Siddiqui- another talent that never disappoints especially when one is desperately looking for something with gravity. Nawaaz plays a small-time Pakistani reporter on the likes of YouTube sensation Chand Nawab. He is even made to recreate that hilarious ‘reporting live at the railway foot-over bridge’ scene too. Search for it on YouTube, if you haven’t yet. Leave a couple of scenes aside, and Nawaaz manages to steal the show from a superstar who’s believed to rule the frame at any given second. His sincerity is so intact that in one scene, his sign-off line to camera goes like, “Cameraman Chaand Nawaab ke saath, Chaand Nawaab” (He’s shooting the video himself)!

In one of the most poignant scenes, Om Puri playing a Pakistani Maulana smells Bajrangi’s inhibitions to do a ‘salaam’ gesture and immediately does ‘Jai Shree Ram’ to make him at ease. BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN gifts us several such scenes where we are told to get over with the zero tolerance attitude towards different religions, without being any preachy. Similarly, the Kashmir issue gets a delightful mention as, “thoda humara bhi toh hai” when describing the Pak owned part of the same name. On the principle cast, Kareena repeats herself and in all the bad senses.

Finally, BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN is not your typical ‘bhai’ film. It is impossible to take out Salman from the Salman Khan; and in a way, we all have learnt to live with it but given the ‘story’ approach, absolutely engaging talents like Harshaali and Nawaaz, I think it is not a bad film at all. Did I actually write it?? Can’t believe myself! Watch out yourself and decide. Till then, I will look out for a valid justification for my verdict. [3/5]

BADLAPUR: Good is good, bad is better! [4/5]

Finally! The age-long standard formula for a successful Bollywood revenge film gets thrashed, whipped and slashed heartlessly by Sriram Raghavan’s dark, bold and gutsy BADLAPUR. The happy & happening world of our hero is shattered while the evil trying to execute one of his unlawful acts and now, the traumatized victim is all gritty to punish the doers. Sounds household? Well, it does but don’t go easy on this as the road ahead from here is anything taken before in Bollywood. BADLAPUR is unconventional, exceptional and incomparable in its league.

It’s been 15 years; Raghu [the unforeseen shades of charming Varun Dhawan] once your regular boy next door is obstinately trying his luck to stumble on one of the murderers of his family. The other partner in crime Liak [the show-stealer Nawazuddin Siddiqui] is already serving 20-year term. An NGO activist informs Raghu that Laik is dying of cancer and needs his forgiveness to taste the free air for the rest of his life. Raghu is unlike our heroes with heart and is even more focused than villains in our films used to be. He doesn’t blow up hideouts of the villain. He hammers on their mental stature. In one of the incontestable situations, he forces his opponent [Vinay Pathak] to let him sleep with his wife [Radhika Apte]. The wife is made producing fake sexual sounds behind the doors and the husband is seen dying in humiliation.

BADLAPUR is an enjoyable and inventive mix of such brutal humor with amusing action but the film gets a new dimension in the climax. The villain ticks off the hero for cold-bloodedly killing his partner. ‘You have gone mad. Go, see a doctor’ he suggests sympathetically. Film also raises the question that how far one would go for revenge? And what after it’s done? The other astounding subplot is the heartfelt romantic track between Laik and his sex-worker girlfriend Jhumli [Huma Qureshi]; where the lover loves to hear ‘dirty talks’ his flame masters in.

Sriram Raghavan takes forward all the expectations his ‘EK HASINA THI’ and ‘JOHNNY GADDAR’ has built in cinema-lovers all over India. BADLAPUR too constantly keeps you on the edge of your seat with the riveting drama taking a new turn every time you blink your eyes. The rawness in characters and in the characteristics of the scene never misses the opportunity to surprise you. Watch out for the brilliantly visualized and set first static shot of the film. It’s your regular dull day in apparently uncrowded market and as a viewer; you really don’t see it coming.

BADLAPUR is a film celebrated most for its casting and worthy performances from every one listed. Yami Gautam looks ravishing and does succeed in making your heart bleed in those ‘not many’ scenes. Ashwini Kalsekar as the private detective leaves an impression she’s known for. Pratima Kannan is remarkably good so is Vinay Pathak. Radhika Apte plays it effectively while playing a convinced wife who can go any extend to save her husband. I have always maintained that Kumud Mishra is an eye-candy treat to see that something really sparkling in him. Huma continues to entice the screen with her mystical looks and presence. Divya Dutta is another talent who never fails.  And last but not the least, the Varun Dhawan-Nawazuddin duo! Where the balanced-than-ever-before Varun surprises with his new find scheming eyes and calculated smile, Nawaz takes your breath away with his gifted chameleon-like ability to throw on you an all new shade in his character one after the other.

To rest my case, Raghavan’s BADLAPUR is a smartly bricked film that blurs the line between your regular perception about good and bad, and does it so beautifully you find yourself in a tight spot as which side you are and which side you should be at the end of day. Watch out for Nawazuddin’s deliciously evil performance and the unconventional route it dares to take! A must-watch!! [4/5]

KICK: Have faith in God aka Salman & you might enjoy him taking you for a ride! [2/5]

Many describe most of the mass-entertainers a ‘paisa-vasool’ film. I really want to know what this reckless term is all about. Does a ‘dhaansu’ entry of the hero pay you back a 50 rupee note? How much a Nargis Fakhri item number is worth of, accordingly? And how to evaluate all those silly fight sequences and an emotional backup to the story to justify all the ridiculous actions our hero does?? I am still trying to locate my ‘paisa’ spent on Sajid Nadiadwala’s KICK in my wallet, if it’s come back! No, it’s not there yet! My ‘Paisa’ is not ‘Vasool-ed’.

Getting into direction with a Salman Khan film is one of the wisest decisions Sajid would ever have made. The man who knows it all [Sajid being the most celebrated Film producer] meets the man who does it all [Salman is known for that] and the outcome is all set to break records on box-office but not without testing your patience and questioning your intelligence. The man in question here is nothing but God to his fans. Everything he does on screen robotically becomes believable and justifiable. Otherwise, who would have the guts to propose a name like ‘Devi’ to a character played by Salman Khan? (No offence to women out there!)

So, he’s a good-hearted guy who endorses alcohol ferociously and gets offended by the idea of being a ‘Ghar Jamai’ though he has nothing to be proud of except, of course a good ‘being human’ heart. Wow, how manly he is! Only thing he seeks from life is a kind of adrenalin rush and he can really go far for that. Even stealing from the riches becomes one of the mediums to achieve one such kick. Reminds of DHOOM 3? Why not, it is a distant cousin to that in many aspects. Replacing one accented leading lady with the other irksome victim of same disorder could be one.

KICK also suffers from a bunch of ironies. One that leaves you in splits is when Devi [the Salman Khan] is repeatedly called a ‘headache’, ‘torture’ and ‘unjhelable’ by none other than his girlfriend. Was she referring to the film? I hope so. In one of the last scenes, Salman is seen dancing on ‘Saat Samundar Paar’ from VISHWATMA. This is undeniably the sweetest and cutest tribute to Divya Bharti from his husband Sajid but the irony doesn’t find a place to hide that the yesteryear actress’s suspicious death has drinking habits as allegedly one of the main causes and this whole sequence encourages drinking like there’s no one watching. Awful!

On the performance meter, it’s Randeep Hooda who brings in the most controlled performance. For making himself confidently able to stand against someone like Salman in a film designed for Salman, Hooda deserves it. The most annoying of the lot is Nawazuddin Siddiqui. His weirdly wicked act of a villainous laugh is so old-fashioned and maddening to hear one after another. As for as Salman is concerned, he is hardly concerned about it! As a true ardent fan, we should not look for logics in whatever he does like after so much criminal cases against him, he’s seen wearing a police uniform at the end; to make it loud and clear that, “Do not try understanding me!” Well, I dare not! And you better not if going for it! [2/5]

MISS LOVELY (A): ‘A’ grade film about ‘C’ grade Film Industry in late 80’s! Dark & disturbing! [3.5/5]

Much before the current ‘Salman-Akshay & now everyone else’ dominating world of non-sense action thrillers, existed the times of Bollywood’s guilty pleasures confidently called as ‘C-Grade’ films. The period when soft-porn sleazy horror flicks were considered the most profitable idea of mass entertainment. The period when ‘Ramsays’ were more a rage in show-business than ‘Benegals’ & ‘Nihalanis’. Ashim Ahluwalia’s MISS LOVELY takes you back to the very same fascinating era but in a very dark, disturbing, unsettling and highly absorbing tone.

Set in Bombay Film Industry of late 80’s, MISS LOVELY is an atmospheric tale of two brothers [on the suggestive lines of ‘Ramsay Bros.’] trying to make it large in a parallel running darker side of mainstream cinema that is destined to find its end in an illegal commercialization of sex & porn. Vicky Duggal [Anil George] alongwith his younger brother Sonu Duggal [Nawazuddin Siddiqui] makes movies with plump-chubby women of desire in ill-fitted blouses and blood-red lipsticks for clients who only bother about filthy exhibition of female body. These movies are in general those ‘extra reels’ that get added in between shows at single screen cinemas to give viewers maximum pleasure and their value for money.

Where Vicky is unabashedly passionate about making money through these movies, Sonu seeks a way out of all these filth and wants to make ‘ceretainly not with Kumar Gaurav’ but a romantic film. Soon he finds his leading and love-lady too in Pinky [Niharika Singh]- a small town girl with twinkled eyes. Rest is the series of betrayal, hope, dream and passion…all in a dim-lit dark shade.

Ashim Ahluwalia masters in soaking you in the not-so-lovely shocking world behind the curtains where C-grade films rule. The nuances and the settings are perfectly captured through lenses. The lighting sets the swing in moods from cheap flashy parties to excessively melodramatic & multi-colored shooting sequences and the shady-murky times of harsh rejection from reality. The soundtracks are varied, apt and interestingly engross. You can easily find the transition stage from subsequential in quality music pieces in movies to jazzy Biddu-Nazia Hasan eon of Music videos in 90s. Production-design succeeds well in recreating the atmos and the textured look of 80s.

Performances here are subtle, realistic and innate. Nawazuddin is known for the kind of acting his role demanded. He impresses with his honesty mixed with brilliance that never allows you to doubt on the standing of his character. Anil George though looks methodical & disciplined in most of his portrayal. Niharika Singh brings a breezy break with her innocence in playing a small towner.

This all can never be completed without making it loud & clear that MISS LOVELY takes on a world popular in mass but is not everyone’s cup of tea when it comes to an overall movie experience. It does have an arthouse movie feel with less dialogues, engaging but slow pace, lack of hardcore non-sense entertainment & anything that is regular and in routine these days. It is a film for cinema adults. [3.5/5]

THE LUNCHBOX: A 7-course meal for cinema-lovers with good appetite for quality cinema! [4/5]

If local trains are one inseparable lifeline for Mumbai, dabbawallah are unquestionably the other. Delivering food for love/love for food in dabbas to more than 2 lakh people working in their respective fields of interest everyday…that too by a comparatively smaller number of a few thousands dedicated Dabbawallah on their toes, impermeable of bad weather, terrible traffic issues, unfortunate terrorist attacks and uncalled natural disasters! No wonder, surveys indicate that the chances of failure in this 130-year old mechanism fall to once in a 6 million deliveries.

Ritesh Batra’s ‘already riding high on appreciations allover’ slice-of-life, middle-age romantic drama THE LUNCHBOX finds its foundation on that very one mistake, an endearing one that turns into an overwhelming, appetite-full, high-on-emotions love-story between two lone souls lost in the overcrowded city of dreams, Mumbai.

Ila, a housewife and a mother of a 7-year old girl, seeks help in making new delicious recipes for her husband’s lunchbox either from master chef Sanjeev Kapoor on radio/TV or from the neighboring aunty who lives on the second floor with her husband in coma. Interestingly, we hear only voice of her crashing to our ears. Besides that, Ila’s other pastimes limit in washing dirty linens, waiting for her husband to come home and watching him finishing his dinner in some way attending panel discussion on TV news. Loneliness is subtle but the pain is quite visible.

Saajan Fernandez is a face that you see everywhere around yourself. He could be an account manager in your local bank. He could a wrinkled postmaster with all names & addresses on his fingertips. He might not be updated with technology and gadgets our new generation uses but he is there behind his desk for like more than 35 years. This particular face we see on screen is on the edge & age of retirement. He is a widower too. Here again, the loneliness is subtle but the pain & emptiness in his eyes is clearly visible to make you uncomfortable within.

So, when one day the dabba for Ila’s husband reaches mistakenly on the desk of Mr. Fernandez, the old-fashioned yet very amusing-very charming practice of letter-writing takes place to share their individual emotions. They write about the lip-smacking dishes Ila cooks, they write about their personal life experiences and they also share their fears about how life could take a turn on them.

Meanwhile, there is frustratingly funny Shaikh who is about to take place of Saajan after his withdrawal. Lively as anything! He is an orphan but still likes to start his saying with ‘my mother used to say…’ as he thinks it would give it more ‘vajan’.

THE LUNCHBOX creates an aromatic ambiance for two separate worlds of Ila & Saajan. With pile of files on desks, old ceiling fans & bleak faces, Saajan vanishes in a typical government office. Ila’s world is restricted to the kitchen platform and window attached with to make regular conversations with aunty. In others, there are crowded local trains crawling on tracks and an artist on the pavement who paints same painting everyday.

Film’s biggest strength is the writing. Every sequence conveys and leaves some or the other emotion with you. Be it Ila’s imagination to a suicide story or Saajan’s reluctant behavior towards his new colleague! With low-light, grainy visuals to show the realism within the on-location shoots, cinematography is apt & a top class. Sound designing is also something to look out for. You can actually smell the ambiance through those sound bits. Ritesh Batra scores high in creating a simple love-story with a perfect mix of emotions and cinematic brilliance. A story has been told the way it should be. No extra ‘masala’, no unnecessary ‘tadka’!

On the performance side, Irrfan as Saajan Fernandez delivers as much as you could expect from him. He speaks in silence. He throws silence while speaking. Nimrat Kaur in her acting debut surprises you the most. She can be very emotive at one and equally amusing at the other. She makes you feel for the character and in the most simple and impressive way. Her unsophisticated & refined but raw portrayal of Ila will leave you speechless. & then comes, Nawazuddin as Aslam shaikh! Smiles come easy & entertainment is handy when he’s there in the frame.

Overall, THE LUNCHBOX is bittersweet but a rich-in-taste culinary experience like no other. Perfectly cooked-nicely served! Make reservations for weekend in advance! Book a table now! It’s a 7-course meal for cinema-lovers with good appetite for quality cinema! [4/5]

Special Note: Dear Bollywood! Bless me with one LOOTERA, one SHIP OF THESEUS, one LUNCHBOX every year and I’ll forgive you for all your sins of producing ‘HOUSEFULLs’ ‘GRAND MASTIs’ & ‘ZANJEERs’!

SHORTS: Bigger and better than the most of usual Friday releases! [4/5]

It wasn't ages back so, I assume you remember the awe-inspiring times of Shyam Benegal, Mrinal Sen, Govind Nihlani, Saeed Akhtar Mirza and lots more, when Indian cinema discovered the term of new-wave parellel cinema aka meaningful cinema [Alas, we could access that on Doordarshan primarily either on Sunday afternoons or in late night slots] to reinvent- rekindle their conscientiousness to play a pivotal role in showing not the dreamy-saucy world of lies but the gloomy- depressingly dark world of dead reality. In today’s times, the same kind of liability and movement is being lead by Mr. Anurag Kashyap and his extremely passionate team of new-age indie filmmakers!

SHORTS is, in principle, a nicely conceived & designed bouquet of 5 award-winning short films by 5 potential filmmakers of tomorrow. Now, you can find many more short indie films swarming on social networking sites and on video sharing sites like YouTube but these 5 are the best of the bests…and comparatively bigger & better than the most of usual Friday releases.

Directed by Shlok Sharma, SUJATA is a hard-hitting tale of an intrafamilial sexual abuse victim who has been in such painful state for years and is now left with no other option but to rebel & react. Huma Qureshi thrives in hitting every chord just right in every moment she’s in.

THE EPILOGUE by Siddharth Gupt creates a modern-age thriller, innovatively conceptualized with striking amalgamation of interesting visuals & sound cuts. You won’t find any dialogues here but a suggestively haunting giggles and chuckles of Richa Chaddha, playing a wild, aggressive, unstable, unreal lover to a man confined & restrained to his own. This film leaves a lot unanswered to challenge you to interpret. Impressive!

Anirban Roy’s AUDACITY is about a free-spirited girl trapped into her own house with a father who spends his nights playing card-games with friends from neighborhood and a mother who’s always into cooking and ‘poojas’. This portrayal of typical Bengali middle-class family routine is pleasantly ended with reasonable suggestion of a way out.

MEHFUZ by Rohit Pandey starts with Gulzar saab’s ‘Maut tu ek kavita hai, mujhse ek kavita ka waada hai milegi mujhko’, lines getting lived by a dead faced man, missing an alive warmth of companionship while sincerely taking care of unidentified-unattended dead bodies. The pain of longing and the unmoved, hard-to-shake almost dead emotions are beautifully enacted by Nawazuddin. Romancing with the dead!

& lastly, Neeraj Ghaywan’s excruciatingly real SHOR that shows the troubled times in life of a North Indian dysfunctional family of working wife, unemployed husband and an unreasonable mother, in the city of dreams Mumbai. Vineet singh outshines along with Ratnabali Bhattacharjee to evoke an emotional outburst that starts on a very sore, stinging and discomforting level but ends up with lumps in your throat, tears in eyes & a smile with a hope that everything will be settled after.

Beautifully shot, brilliantly executed concepts, perfectly created tone to suit each story differently and accordingly! This presentation is an actor’s delight, filmmaker’s pride and viewer’s choice. If you see cinema as an art, this is for you. If you see cinema as a medium of expression, this is for you. If you see cinema as a serious business or a career option, this is definitely for you. I just wish I could see a time when every Friday I have something like this. Overwhelming Experience! ****[4/5]

BOMBAY TALKIES : Cinema has given you a lot, now its time to return the favor! [4/5]

On the day when Indian cinema is celebrating its glorious centenary; I still remember how I, in my pre-teens, used to run after movie promotional rickshaws every time they showed up in my village, just in hope to get a movie poster someday. Memories are still fresh when my craze for the dynamic Kajol landed me in celebrating her birthdays and posting articles and photographs of her in a secret diary [I still have it :)] and trust me, there are numerous other examples of hardcore fascination towards Indian cinema that run in our veins secretly but passionately.

Karan-Zoya-Dibakar-Anurag’s BOMBAY TALKIES is one of loveliest short film bouquet that takes us through how Cinema or for that matter Bollywood has become an integral part of our lives. So, you see Karan Johar effectively pushing his boundaries as a filmmaker and walking around the dark galore of homosexuality where two people [played immaculately by Randeep Hooda & Saquib Saleem] bond over their common taste & love for bollywood music…SENSITIVE-BOLD-CONFIDENT!

Zoya Akhtar decides to tell a dreamy story of a teenage boy [All praises for Naman Jain- the child actor] who idolizes Katrina Kaif as shiela and has now discovered his passion for being a dancer like her, rather than enrolling for masculine sports i.e. soccer…ENGROSSING!

Dibakar Banerji presents Nawazuddin in a story originally written by Satyajit Ray, for a power-packed performance as a small time theatre-artist who is quite a failure in real world but seeks a new glossy story in reel world to bring rewarding smile on his bedridden daughter…MOVING-HEARTFELT-IMPRESSIVE.

Anurag Kashyap’s short is definitely the most entertaining of the lot. A common man from Allahabad struggles to meet his cinema-idol Amitabh Bachchan just to fulfill his father’s sort of unusual last wish…HILARIOUS & LIKEABLE!

This ode to cinema works for its finesse for the craft that gives you first rate performances, brilliance of writing, flawless screenplay & the most importantly its exhaustive realistic approach to stay honest to each segment and subject. Not all the stories are unheard before but the sincerity in execution demands a must watch in theaters. This is not strictly experimental for classes, this is not formula based for masses…but a rare for all cinema lovers. Cinema has given you a lot, now its time to return the favor! [4/5]
